The Perfect Back Up Fly Rod

Have you ever broke a fly rod?  I have, it's a miserable feeling.  It absolutely sucks.  If you don't carry a back up rod with you, a small mistake or accident can ruin your day or even your trip.  Why would any of us not have a back up fly rod these days?  

The last fly rod I broke was in Colorado a few years ago while I was on a business trip.  I was fishing the Blue River in Silverthorne, testing a prototype for our travel fly rods(sample not accepted).  I had an evening to fish and planned on fishing the next morning as well.  I made a "rookie mistake" while fighting a fish, grabbing an upper section of the rod while trying to bring the fish in, a bit early.  The solid rainbow made one last run, and snap.  I was being lazy trying to bring the fish to hand without a net...it happens to the best of us unfortunately.  

I didn't have a back up with me, and my fishing was done.  I remember driving down the mountain back to Denver early, feeling upset with myself that I didn't have a backup with me.  I can't remember EVER cutting my fishing time off early.  Bringing a back up rod is not only an incredible idea, but I think it's a must.  We only get so much time on the water, and should never allow our time to get cut short due to poor planning, mistakes, or bad luck.  Time is money.  I see many people opting for something that is less expensive than what they currently fish.  I suggest we think about it a bit differently.  It's now incredibly easy to bring a quality back up rod with us on ALL our fishing trips.
